TODAY’S GENIUS

Peter Skrivanic

Cultural Anthropologist

He was born in Montreal, Canada in 1971.
Graduated with a degree in Philosophy and English Literature from Queen's University (Ontario, Canada),
he encountered with shiatsu therapy and began to study at Shiatsu School of Canada (SSC)
He rans a private shiatsu practice for 10 years in Toronto, working in a clinic and also offering treatments in corporate settings.
successively He worked as an instructor, clinic supervisor and finally Director of the SSC Shiatsu Diploma Program.
After years of practicing he got interested in Medical Anthropology, initially to help him understand some questions that arose in his shiatsu teaching.
He received a Master's Degree (2008), then enrolled in the PhD program at University of Toronto.

Research interests: cultural translation of traditional medicines; sensory anthropology; medical epistemology and ontology.
He came to Kyoto for some comparative fieldwork research; liked it and decided to stay.
He is currently finishing his dissertation, while also teaching part-time at Doshisha University and Doshisha Women's College.
